ADVANCED LCA - CONSEQUENTIAL MODELING, EIO LCA, AND LANDUSE
Organizer : Søren Løkke, Associate Professor, e-mail: loekke@plan.aau.dk
Lecturers : Jannick H. Schmidt, Assistant Professor, Aalborg University, Mikkel Thrane, Associate Professor, Aalborg University, Dr. Christel Cederberg (Swedish Institute for Food and Biotechnology - SIK) Professor H. Wenzel (University of Southern Denmark)
ECTS : 2
Time : May 11 - 12, 2010
Place : Aalborg University
Deadline : April 12, 2010
Max. No. of participants:  30
Description:

The objective of the course is to provide students with knowledge, methods and tools that are necessary to conduct consequential life cycle assessment (LCA) and environmental input output LCA (EIO LCA). The course will also address another hot topic, namely landuse and global warming related to landuse in LCIA. The students will need to bring their own laptops, where they have downloaded the software tool Simapro, beforehand (via access codes provided by the course organisers). Also students will be asked to make a short description of their project beforehand, based on a template provided by the organisers.

The first day will focus on consequential modelling. The lectures will address the nature of consequential modelling, as well as the similarities and differences between products systems, when based on consequential and attributional modelling.

The second day will address EIO and landuse. Apart from a theoretical introduction to EIO LCA, the student will obtain hands- on experiences with different types of EIO modelling – from the simplest types of EIO to more advanced modelling including hybrid LCA. For landuse, the modelling challenges will be addressed, and examples of handling of landuse will be given from Swedish studies of meat products.
